Geotechnical Engineer

My client requires an experienced geotechnical engineer to minimise and control their geotechnical risk associated with their mining activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Accountable for a safe working mining environment in keeping with sound geotechnical engineering practices
• Formulate and maintain a geotechnical domain model for kimberlite mining operations
• Conduct slope stability analyses and pit design recommendations
• Recommend safe planning and working procedures to minimise risk of collapse and threat to mining personnel and equipment.

REQUIREMENTS
• Tertiary qualification – BSc in mining engineering, geotechnical engineering or similar.
• Experience of geotechnical engineering in open pit mining operations
• Minimum of 5 years mine operations experience in hard rock mining, preferably of a similar scale and equipment fleet, in which experience has been gained in supervision, equipment operation and/or drilling & blasting
• Ability to build up and manage systems and procedures for sound geotechnical engineering controls and practices from a low base
• Advanced PC skills and computer literacy, including experience with standard geotechnical software packages.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills; ability to deliver results to schedule and budget; pro-active commitment to a safe mine and working environment; a strong willingness to expand own personal technical knowledge for the continuous improvement of the operation.
