Chief Operating Officer – Coal Mining - Gauteng

With preliminary conceptual mine plans in place, my client is currently seeking a Chief Operations Officer to take full strategic control over coal assets in Mpumalanga and KZN.

Responsibilities:
• Overall responsibility for all operations and projects in South Africa
• Provides direction and structure for operating units
• Direct company operations to meet budget and other financial goals.
• Direct short-term and long-range planning and budget development to support strategic business goals.
• Establish the performance goals, allocate resources, and assess policies for senior management.
• Demonstrate successful execution of business strategies for company products and services.
• Develop, establish, and direct execution of operating policies to support overall company policies and objectives.

Requirements:
• Mining Engineer/Geology graduate and with 15 years of relevant experience (ideally an MSC)
• Senior management experience in large open cast mines with profit centre responsibility with strategic management and business development skills.
• Intimate knowledge of management and work practices relevant to mechanised mining.
• Ability to use quantitative analysis and financial tools to justify investment decisions
• Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
• Ability to liaise with a wide variety of staff and Clients at all levels essential
