Metallurgy and Flotation Head of Department - South Africa

I am seeking a senior individual to act as Head of Department to my clients’ Metallurgy and Floatation Technologies department and develop operating procedures to formulate changes ensuring work flows are continuously improved, including allocation of work and planning of test work.

Responsibilities
• Ensure accurate results are received by applying quality control procedures in accordance with internationally recognized standards
• Ensure sample routing is monitored and utilization of resources is maximised
• Ensure turnaround time is strictly controlled
• Ensure clients are advised on appropriate sample presentation
• Ensure work requests are scrutinized to ensure that all necessary information is included
• Keep abreast of new trends and current developments within Metallurgical Science
• Fully au fait with relevant methodology and development and validation thereof
• Conduct project work and feasibility studies
• Improve development and validation methods
• Responsible for effective and appropriate use of equipment and facilities within the department, as well as maintenance and protection thereof
• Responsible for Health and Safety within the department
• Compile, submit and control budget forecasts
• Adhere to all quality and safety requirements
• Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.

Requirements
• BSc, BEng or relevant Diploma
• Minimum of 5 years in relevant discipline at a senior/management level
• Proven technical competence when it comes to flotation: understand how to approach a testing regime, setup pilot plants
• Must be able to run multiple projects at a time and handle the associated stress in a commercial laboratory environment
• Person must be able to deal (and manage) with people from all walks including clients, consultants, inter-departmental managers and people within the flotation group.

• Client liaison and good communication skills
