Responsibilities
• Ensure appropriate appointments in terms of the Mine, Health and Safety Act are in place
• Ensure all emergency and shut down procedures are identified and implemented
• Optimize planned maintenance schedules and practices in place, including condition monitoring.
• Management of Maintenance contracts
• Evaluate requirements of departmental staff, ensure that individuals are provided with correct development opportunities
• Evaluate training courses as well as oversee the development of training material
• Assist with the recruitment and selection of new employees and graduates ensuring the right people for the vacancies
• Commission projects and plan contingencies
• Monitor the progress and costs of the projects and report regularly on the variances
• Keep abreast of new technologies and developments in Control and Instrumentation
• Ensure that costs allocated for engineering tasks within specified operation are controlled within the prescribed budget and compares with international accepted benchmarks
• Ensure cost saving
• Approve budgetary expenditures within authorization limits
• Control capital expenditure for improvement programmes
• Working with tenders and compliance to Supply Chain standards
• Take remedial action on non-compliance to findings in Audits
You will need:
• Diploma or Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (NQF level 5 - BSc or National Diploma)
• Government Certificate of Competency for Mines
• Registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)
• Member of the South African Engineering Association
• Management Development Programme or the equivalent would be advantageous
• Minimum 2 years experience in managing OC / UG Machinery / Plant sections
• In depth understanding of relevant safety and mining legislation including: The Mine Health and Safety Act and Minerals and Energy Act
• An in depth knowledge and understanding of technical engineering aspects such as OEM’s and SABS standards.
• A good knowledge of machinery and equipment used on the relevant operations
• Flame-proofing and Gas Testing knowledge
• Understanding of engineering best practices and new technologies relating to engineering principles & processes
• Understanding of Environmental standards
• Valid driver’s license
• In possession of or able to obtain a certificate of fitness
