Mining Project Director – Copper

My client, currently conducting pre-feasibility studies for a copper mine in Southern Africa, is seeking the services of a seasoned mining professional with some 15 years of progressive experience to take full responsibility for moving the project from feasibility phases to production. This position will be based in Johannesburg with regular travel to Southern Africa regions.

Responsibilities
• Establishment and management of a regional office
• Assuming a leadership position in advancing project development from completion of the preliminary economic assessment (PEA) through Bankable Feasibility (BFS), financing and construction
• Overseeing the ongoing delineation drilling and regional exploration program
• Managing the technical aspects of ongoing feasibility engineering work (geology, metallurgy, mining and infrastructure engineering) through “in-house” engineering and the use of external consultants and engineers
• Managing environmental and socioeconomic studies comprising the ongoing project EIA
• Maintaining regulatory compliance and ongoing interaction with government officials in preparation for acquiring the mining license and permits required for development and operations
• Working closely with corporate management in discussions with mining analysts, investors and financial advisors in keeping the markets up to date in project status and ongoing financing discussions.
• Develops policies and procedures relating to safety, the environment and the individual and organizational development

Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology or related discipline
• Progressive 15 years’ experience in hard rock mining industry at various levels of responsibility
• Expert level knowledge of technical and project documentation, local statutory reporting standards for mining industry, local statutory requirements for permitting documentation
• Formal professional designation in appropriate area of expertise
• Excellent leadership and management skills are a must
• Intimate understanding of all technical aspects of open pit and underground mining operations
• Exceptional relationship building skills
• Professionalism in communication with people
