Occupational HygieneSpecialist - Mining – KZN

An Occupational Hygiene Specialist to provide support to an international mining consulting company’s laboratories and customers across Africa.

Responsibilities:

Drive new business and business expansion in Africa through the identification of opportunities for new and expanded services.

· Using results of tests, ensure that customers understand and use company results effects, deepening customer relations

· Reporting to Business Environmental Manager

· Training and staff development

· Develop and train personnel in the implementation of ISO17025 quality systems

· Practical quality assurance

· Plan campaigns from equipment selection, to site work, to lab management, to reporting

· Manage a geographically distributed team through visit and telephone/email communication

· Training of staff in the use of testing equipment and interpretation of the results of tests to improve understanding and quality control

· Ensure that best practice is applied in the sampling and testing throughout the company Africa network of Affiliates

· Mentor staff through an occupational hygiene accreditation scheme

· Specification of equipment in conjunction with the Environmental Team, identify equipment and accessories for testing and local Affiliate and the Global Quality Manager, ensure that the quality of results meets company internal Profile

· Respond to customer queries in new areas and assist staff with templates for occupational hygiene investigations and interpretation of non-standard data sets

Requirements:

· Degree in Chemistry or Public Health and accreditation Occupational Hygienist (under scheme recognised by IOHA)

· 10 years’ air quality and emission-testing experience

· Work in developing countries

· Knowledge on site work requirements and shipping of equipment to remote locations

· Competent at presentation of reports and papers relevant to air quality management and testing

· Thorough understanding of air testing quality control and standard methods current including developing analytical technologies

· Fluency in English, with French and Portuguese advantageous

· Conduct discussions with customers and trainee field staff on interpretation of diagnostic results
